Cuban inspired wedding theme: Groom's attire

Some of my clients choose to not have a formal wedding with the traditional black suit, matching ivory waistcoat and tie and white shirt. Some feel that their wedding should be a bit more fun and festive. In their words it must be "informal". Now in my vocabulary for styling weddings there is no such thing as "informal" weddings. No matter how laid back your wedding theme is, the bride and groom along with their bridesmaids and groom's man should set the tone of the wedding and should some how still keep some basic traditions of a wedding style but give it a modern twist to portray the "informality" of the wedding theme.

I've put together a Cuban inspired look. One can still option for the groom to wear a tie and the groom's man to wear open collar shirts but this look as it is says "informal" but still holds the basic style sense of a traditional wedding look.

Here I have a black C2 Carducci slim fit pants with matching waistcoat. White Carducci shirt with Black stitching detail on the collar and cuff. The inside of the neck and inside of the cuff has black detail for a modern yet formal finish to an amazing shirt. This shirt is versatile and can be worn with or without a tie. To add to the Cuban inspired look and add a fun and festive feel to this look I made a red and turquoise boutonniere.

My Wedding day Editorial: Behind the scenes

Planning a shoot is one of the most stressful things to do. In this case it was the total opposite...I had the most amazing team who helped put together this amazing editorial shoot for My wedding day magazine, issue 9. There comes a time in a stylist career when she either finds a photographer, a hair and make up artist or designer which you connect with and create the most beautiful images. In this case I have found just that!

Adel Ferreira was the photographer assisted by Jomeri Mouton. Adel is one of  the most talented photographers I've worked with and we always have the best time working on shoots.

Yolande Du Toit was our hair and make up artist for the day and Sunelle and Margaux from Blank Canvas sourced and styled the decor for the editorial.

Before I share our behind the scenes with you I would like to show you our inspiration for the shoot. We wanted to achieve an old Hollywood glamour look and feel and wanted to create a romantic setting with candles, glass vases and fairy lights.

We had the pleasure of shooting on Webersburg wine estate in Stellenbosch. Call time was 12:00 and while Yolande was busy with hair and make up with our model Joyce from Boss Models, everyone unpacked and start setting up the first few shots.

Dresses and Accessories are ready for action

The weather looking not so great at the moment and we had a bit of a panic because most of our shots were planned to shoot outside...

Looking through the images to see if we have the shot.

While waiting for the rain to stop and for the sun to set we quickly had to create another shot as a back up plan should it not stop raining. Rozanne volunteers with a glass of wine to be the "model" for Adel's light testing. Vogue eat your heart out!!

Margaux and Joyce waiting patiently for shot setup.

After a long 12 hour shoot we all sat together and had an amazing dinner with a well deserved glass of red wine in the rainy weather.

That's all for now, please be on the lookout for the my wedding day magazine which will be in stores nation wide this December.

Thanks again for the amazing all girls team for working so hard to make this editorial the best! I had a vision but the end result is so much better!

Jandre: Matric Dance

You know the saying that mother knows best...well I'm sure that our Mothers knows best but what I've found when styling Matric dances is that the boys would take my advice instead of listening to their mothers when it comes to getting the right look...would this make Moi Styling knows best??

Every June/July school holiday I always spot the Mom with her son in the mall desperately looking for suits, shirts, ties and shoes for his Matric dance. Now by the look on both their faces this is no easy task. Last year I was asked by a group of friends from Bishops to style them for their Matric dance. The boys loved their stylish transformations while the mothers enjoyed not arguing with their sons on what to wear. Each boy received their look within 20 minutes and walked away with their Matric Dance attire. No hassle and fuss free. Some of the mom's explained that this was an effortless experience and the total cost of their attire was less than half of what they would have spent in the shops.

Margo, Jandre's mom, contact me to style Jandre for his Matric Dance. She explained that she knows what men usually wear to formal events but she would prefer it if I could put together a look for her son because she simply does not have the time and patience to take her son to the shops and maybe then not even find the right suit for him.

I sourced a Black Carducci suit, black and white detailed silk tie, white Carducci french collar shirt, black reversible belt and black leather Polo shoes. I decided not to match his tie completely with his date's dress because I simply can not stand the idea of matching everything and a Matric dance is suppose to be modern, funky and fun. I believe that each one of us are individuals and have an individual style. Each person needs to make a statement somehow and not blend in!

"A big thank you Rozanne for this fantastic efficient service! I am  recommending  you to all my friends with son's that have to do the Matric dance. It was the first time that my son didn't complain about getting clothing. It saved us time and effort running around from one shop to another. You 'fixed' him up in a flash and everything was perfect!!" Margo Horn

Hendri & Imke: Real wedding

While I was planning a shopping day in Robertson in April I received a phone call from Imke and we immediately shared an excitement for her fiance aka Hendri's winter wedding style. She liked the idea of playing around with different textures and this was a style right up my alley because as soon as I wrap my fingers around different textures and colours the creative juices flow.

Hendri and Imke exchanged their vows in June as the Afrikaners would say: "In die hartjie van die winter." I had to style Hendri (groom) and his 4 best men. Hendri and his groomsmen are wearing black C2 Carducci suits. Hendri is wearing a textured grey waistcoat with a charcoal and silver paisley silk tie. The groomsmen are wearing black waistcoats with plain charcoal silk ties.

Photos are taken by Peartree Photography: http://www.peartree.co.za/Welcome.html

Here is what Imke had to say about Moi styling:

"Moi Styling is simply fantastic! We got married just a little bit more than a month ago, in the heart of winter, and they sorted out my husband and the best men’s outfits. Effortless! A must for any groom."

Carnival Cufflinks DIY

A few weeks ago I styled a Carnival shoot which will appear on The Pretty blog soon. While sourcing for mens accessories I realised that there was not a lot of options for funky bow ties or cufflinks in the shops. The ones you do get are so over priced and I decided to make my own bow ties and cufflinks. I went fabric hunting and found the most amazing prints.

When I got home I started with the bow ties and I had a pair of plain round cufflinks and I thought to myself how nice it would have been to have funky cufflinks to match these cute bow ties. Immediately a DIY project came to mind and I started playing around with ideas. So here is my take on how to transform your old cufflinks into funky ones to match your wedding theme and style.

Here is how you can make your own funky cufflinks:

1. 1 pair of plain or old cufflinks
2. You need a needle, thin elastic thread and 2 round circles cut out from the fabric you want to use.
3. Thread a fine stitch along the border of the circle a few millimeters from the edge.
4. Place the fabric over the cufflink and pull the elastic tight and tie a knot to secure the fabric. Trim the access elastic and fabric pieces.
5. One can mix and match any of the cufflinks with the bow ties with a formal Double cuff shirt to complete your signature look.
6. Final look of the bow tie and cufflink on a light blue formal shirt.

Tips:
The fabric can easily be removed and replace by a different fabric or pattern to match your tie or bow tie. This is a cheap and easy way to transform your old cufflinks into funky new ones to match any occasion and theme.

Hope you enjoy this one...keep your eyes open for the Carnival shoot with LUV photography and Blank-Canvas.
